Senior Girls Basketball Tournament - November 24 Coaches had prepared their players well to play in the all day 2009 TISAC Senior Girls Basketball Tournament. And this was evident by all of the athletes in their outstanding display of sportsmanship and play throughout the tournament. Teams made the tournament exciting by executing good plays and playing hard until the last buzzer. This was evident from the first tip off between St. Andrews and BCIS until the last round robin game between BCIS and KPIS. St. Andrews earned a place in the finals and anxiously waited to see if their opponent would be Wells or ASB and at this time Regents was in the mix. The outcome of the Wells vs. ASB game put ASB against St. Andrews, who had won the previous match up, for the championship game. The final game was exciting as both teams played tough defense and exchanged basket for basket until the end of the game. And the final score of the championship game was ASB 13 -- St. Andrews 12. Congratulations go to all athletes and coaches for a well played tournament. U13 Boys Basketball Tournament - November 24 On Tuesday 24th November, Charter International School hosted the TISAC U13 Boys Basketball Tournament. It was a busy day with 28 matches to be played and 11 schools participating. Before the tournament began we had a huge group photo of everyone involved then got on with playing some Basketball. There was lots of action and superb skill on show throughout the day. In the group stages there were some games which were won easily, but also some incredibly close games being won and lost by just one point! Players from all schools showed good sportsmanship and respect to their fellow competitors, and team coaches were great at having their players ready for their games which allowed the tournament to flow smoothly. St Stephens and Bangkok Prep won their respective groups with St Andrews and Keerapat coming a close second. This set up two superb semi-finals where we saw a fantastic display of talent and hard work. Players were getting tired after a long day, but still found the energy to do their best for their team. Congratulations to St Andrews and Keerapat who reached the final. I would like to thank all the referees, coaches, officials and maids for their hard work at the tournament. Without them the day would not have been possible and I hope that all players enjoyed their day at the tournament. Leanne Clarke - Charter International School U13 Girls Basketball Tournament - November 24 The tournament began in earnest as 9 teams prepared themselves for a long afternoon of fierce competition. After one or two group games were played it was clear that each group had some strong contenders to make the semi-finals with some impressive basketball being played on both sides of the draw. In group A STA looked strong after an early 16-2 victory over Regents while in the opposing group KPIS looked equally impressive with a 19-3 victory over the hosts SIS. As the afternoon progressed it was clear that some schools were stronger than some of the less experienced schools within the TISAC Basketball leagues. Although Regents did pick up their form in the latter stages of group B it always looked like STA and BKK were going to emerge as semi finalist. It looked as though a similar pattern was emerging from Group A with KPIS and WELLS both recording impressive victories over the host school SIS. However, a much improved Ascot team looked like they’d not read the script as they battled hard against early tournament favorites KPIS in their penultimate group game. After going into the half time break 2-1 ahead, Ascot looked like they could possibly pull off an upset. However, KPIS pulled out all the stops in the second half to run away with a 9-2 victory. In the first semi-final KPIS played BKK and without a basket on the board at half time it was clear that both defenses were desperate not to concede the first basket. Things opened up in the second half after a fantastic interception from BKK resulted in them edging ahead. BKK then went onto win 4-0 to book their place in the final. The second semi-final was also extremely tight as STA managed to turn around an early 4-1 deficit to progress through to the final 5-4, with an outstanding second half defensive display. After a long afternoon of Basketball it was left to STA and BKK to battle it out for tournament winners and once again both defenses battled hard as the first half ended 0-0. It looked like the first to score would have the momentum to see the game through and that turned out to be the case as BKK took the lead with a good interception and break-away lay-up. BKK raised their game once more to take a 4-0 victory and with it the tournament victory. Congratulations to BKK for winning the tournament, but well done to all participants as every team showed a real determination and drive to win every game. There was some really impressive Basketball shown throughout the day. We enjoyed hosting the tournament and wish all schools good luck for the rest of the TISAC year and beyond.
